One food that we started increasing in our diet to fight heart disease was avocado. It’s filled with healthy fats and adds a creamy element to meals. We used to make guacamole once Michael realized how delicious homemade guacamole is versus those weird runny ones at restaurants. Seriously, not sure why they kill avocados at restaurants and dilute them with…something inedible. I’ve made this healthy alternative to takeout so many times. It’s great for when you’re craving Chinese food but want to control the amount of sugar and salt that goes into your dish. Caprese salad is traditionally just fresh mozzarella cheese, basil leaves, and tomatoes. Generally balsamic vinegar and olive oil are paired with it as the dressing, but I am just not a balsamic fan, so I drown mine in olive oil alone. I really do make a lot of classic meals like spaghetti, although I’ve learned to pump them full of veggies. I know there are many necessary food groups, but the main one that the majority of Americans don’t eat enough of is vegetables. The only one I like to snack on is carrots, so I try to do that regularly, but I’m not much of a salad person and I always go for the sweets at breakfast, so supper is where I can load up.
